Project Details

Due to the current and expected future demand for sand in the Hunter and Sydney markets, Boral sought approval for continued operations at the quarry through a State Significant Development (SSD) application. The SSD proposed to extract sand from a former pit within the landholding by way of dredging. The proposal required an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to be developed and submitted to the regulator.

Element Engagement

Element’s engagement included:

  • Project management of the SSD approval process and associated technical studies
  • Prepare the Scoping Report
  • Prepare the EIS
  • Prepare the Social Impact Assessment (SIA)
  • Undertake government agency and community consultation

Project Achievements

Element encouraged and facilitated a project definition workshop attended by all key technical specialists to fully define the project early in the SSD process, allowing accurate definition of the project and technical study methodologies in the scoping phase. This allowed technical studies to be conducted with minimal rework minimising impacts on project program and budget.
